Orlando Motorcycle Accident Lawyer

Orlando Motorcycle Accident LawyerFlorida is an immensely popular destination for motorcyclists of all kinds. Great weather and the natural beauty of the state draw large numbers of riders, both locally and from out of state. A further attraction is the fact that many motorcycle rallies and other events each year are hosted by Orlando, Kissimmee, and surrounding Central Florida communities.

Unfortunately, motorcyclists in Florida are susceptible to severe or fatal injury if they get into a collision with another motor vehicle. Because there is no vehicle structure to protect a motorcycle rider, a motorcyclist can easily suffer disfiguring facial fractures, spinal cord injuries and paralysis, and/or head injuries, including traumatic brain injury (TBI), in a collision with a car or truck.

If you have been injured in a motorcycle accident, an attorney may be instrumental in helping you to secure just compensation. Insurance companies and liable parties are often reluctant to meet their legal obligations after a motorcycle crash.

At the Orlando law office of Frank M. Eidson, P.A., our experienced motorcycle accident attorney helps motorcycle accident victims and their families in Kissimmee and Daytona Beach, and throughout Central Florida obtain fair compensation for their medical expenses and other losses.

If you have been catastrophically injured in a motorcycle accident, or a loved one has suffered wrongful death, contact Frank M. Eidson, P.A. We will protect your rights.

Motorcycle Accidents in Florida

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles says there were 8,621 motorcycle accidents in Florida in 2011, a 15.19 percent increase from the 7,484 in our state in 2010. Motorcycle accidents killed 413 motorcyclists (up 18 percent from 2010) and 38 passengers (up 15.15 percent).

Motorcycle accidents in Florida injured 7,194 motorcyclists in 2011 and 776 passengers in 2011, increases from 2010 of 7.6 and 7 percent, respectively.

In Orange County (Orlando) alone, there were 31 motorcycle accident fatalities and 506 motorcycle accidents resulting in personal injury in 2011.

Nationally, there were 4,612 motorcyclists killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes – an increase of 2 percent from the 4,518 motorcyclists killed in 2010, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says.

Per mile traveled, motorcyclists were more than 30 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a motor vehicle crash in 2011 and five times more likely to be injured, according to the NHTSA.

The NHTSA says further that 49 percent of all motorcycles involved in fatal crashes collided with another type of motor vehicle that was moving. In 38 percent of fatal motorcycle crashes involving another motor vehicle, the other vehicle was turning left while the motorcycle was going straight, passing, or overtaking another vehicle.

Motorcyclists who survive motorcycle crashes can suffer such injuries as traumatic brain injury (TBI), spinal cord injury (SCI), broken bones, including facial fractures, or cuts and scrapes (“road rash”). Again, because they are not protected, motorcyclists and their passengers are more likely than other motorists to have legs, arms, toes and fingers severed in a crash.

The NHTSA says the most important thing motorcycle riders can do to protect themselves in case of an accident is to wear a helmet. The federal research agency says DOT-compliant helmets are believed to be 37 percent effective in preventing fatal injuries to motorcycle riders and 41 percent for motorcycle passengers.

The State of Florida repealed its requirement for adults to wear helmets while riding motorcycles or mopeds in the year 2000. Underage drivers are required to wear them.

After a Florida Motorcycle Accident

A motorcyclist or motorcycle passenger seriously injured in a collision with a car or truck is likely to face hospitalization, surgery and physical rehabilitation. The expense of such medical treatment will add up quickly and, in for the most severe injuries, may be ongoing as a former motorcyclist lives with debilitating injuries such as paralysis or traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Orlando motorcycle accident attorney Frank M. Eidson helps motorcyclists who have been seriously injured in accidents that were not their fault, or the families of fatally injured motorcyclists. He understands what recovery after a serious motorcycle accident injury is like and helps accident victims recover compensation for their medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering and other losses. He is also experienced with personal injury cases involving traumatic brain injury and understands the costs of TBI over a patient’s lifetime.

At Frank M. Eidson, P.A., our legal team conducts thorough invitations of motorcycle accidents, including consulting with accident reconstruction specialists to determine whether the other motorist, poor road design or maintenance, or a defective bike or motorcycle part caused or contributed to an accident.
