Usually, a trip to the hospital to have a child is a joyous occasion. Too many times an injury is caused by the medical staff who are responsible for the safety of the infant and of the mother. Most medical malpractice birth injuries occur because the doctor or the hospital staff did something wrong.
A recent case in Pennsylvania dealt with a faulty ultrasound device. The jury awarded $78,000,000.00 to a woman who arrived at the hospital bleeding and nearly to full-term. The ultrasound device detected that the baby had died in utero. The mother insisted that she felt the baby kicking and over an hour later they detected a heartbeat and the child was delivered by C-section and has spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy.
