During these hot and sunny days playgrounds are what many children want to go to during the summer months. This is a good idea but one of the problems is that metal play equipments become very hot. There are many times that the metal portions of monkey bars can get in excess of 100 degrees in the heat of summer.
There are stories of individuals climbing up slides and going down the slide and receiving second degree burns to their hands and knees. This is magnified when the surface area of the metal is much hotter. The Consumer Product Safety Commission suggest that parents and their care givers always check and test the surface of the playground equipment to ensure safety of the children.
