I have been representing people in central Florida with social security claims for over 20 years.  There is a process in which you must prove that you cannot do what you have done in the last fifteen years and are not able to do any work into the future.  The judge will ultimately make the decision but one of the questions is what is the definition of skilled and unskilled work.

The following are some basic definitions of work:

  • (unskilled work) unskilled work is a job that you can learn in thirty days.  The occupation includes clerks, dishwashers, security system monitors or any type of typist.  These jobs involve a small amount of judgement needed to perform the task
  • (semi-skilled work) the semi-skilled work involves a little bit more training.  The types of jobs that include semi-skilled work are carpenters, nurses aid or an administrative assistant
  • (skilled work) this work generally requires a lot more training and advanced education such as college.  These skilled workers involve occupations such as an attorney, physicians, teacher, an architect or some type of building construction manager.
