As an Orlando Auto Accident Attorney people who have been involved in an auto accident ask me, “Should I talk to the other side’s insurance company if they call me”? This is the most frequently asked question I get.

They are going to call you; the other side’s insurance company. They have really gotten aggressive; Allstate, State Farm, Progressive. They’re even coming to the scene to try to get you to sign a release. If you do that, your claim is over.

A release is a document that you accepted a certain amount of money, a dollar, $5,000, and you can never come back to them again.

The problem is, in the past, I’ve had clients, or potential clients, come to me and say “Hey, what is this document? I’ve got $10,000 in medical bills. I got $3,500 at the scene of the accident.”

And I got to say, “That’s an enforceable document, I can’t help you”.

So, if they call you, it’s all right to talk to them, to get their name, their contact information.

Then I would circle back around and find out what is the true purpose of this phone call, maybe give lawyer a call to make sure everything’s okay.

So before you sign any document for the insurance company of the other side, it’s a very good idea to give an attorney a call.
