Many people feel that a trip to the emergency room is a pain because they are overcrowded and understaffed. The is fact that the emergency rooms make mistakes that result in death or serious injuries are never excusable. There are a number of common errors that emergency room staff perform:
- Medication Mistakes – this is when they give you the wrong drug or the wrong amount of drug which is due typically from poor communication with the patient
- Delayed Treatment – when someone arrives to the emergency room, they are sometimes delayed hours before they get treated. This can result in horrible consequences that can create life-threatening dangers
- Mis-Diagnosis/Failure to Diagnose – this is probably the most common error when they fail to diagnose what is actually wrong. People come in with chest pain and they think it is a stomach pain and the patient ends up having a heart attack when they leave the hospital
- Mis-Interpreting Tests – this is a result of emergency room physicians and nurses being under stress and they are rushed. The tests and the images can be mis-labeled, incorrectly processed or somehow lost.
